Orange Money Group and Visa have announced a strategic partnership to expand virtual card payments and improve access to digital financial services across Africa and the Middle East.
The collaboration builds on an existing partnership in Botswana, Madagascar, and Jordan, where Orange Money and Visa already offer digital payment services. The initiative has recently expanded to Côte d’Ivoire, with the launch of a Visa virtual card available through the Max it app.
The Orange Money Visa virtual card allows users to instantly generate a digital card and fund it directly from their Orange Money wallet, enabling secure online payments on both local and international e-commerce platforms.
Physical Visa cards are expected to be introduced at a later stage through authorised Orange Money points of sale, offering customers additional payment flexibility.
The partnership will continue to scale across the continent, with planned rollouts in Guinea, Burkina Faso, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, supporting broader adoption of digital payments and cashless transactions.
“Thanks to Orange Money, our 45 million customers can make everyday payments at millions of physical retail locations and with online merchants in their country. Whether they are individuals or entrepreneurs, they can now create their virtual Visa card in just a few seconds and make international online payments across the Visa network.”
said Thierry Millet, CEO of Orange Money Group.
“By combining Visa’s trusted technology with Orange Money’s local reach, this partnership offers a simple, secure way for more people and small businesses to pay online, helping them participate confidently in everyday commerce.”
said Ismahill Diaby, Vice-President and General Manager for Western and Central Francophone and Lusophone Africa at Visa.
