Ant International, IFC, and GCash Launch Sustainability Scorecard for Filipino MSMEs

Manila, Philippines – April 22, 2026

Ant International, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and GCash announced a partnership to pioneer a Sustainability Impact Scorecard for Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The AI-integrated scorecard will measure environmental and social impacts to build credibility and unlock green financing access. This initiative builds on Ant International’s Programme Sirius and follows discussions at COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

Partnership Specifics

The scorecard is tailored for the Philippine market with a phased pilot rollout encompassing ecosystem assessments, stakeholder engagement, development, validation, and field testing nationwide via GCash’s digital ecosystem. Filipino MSMEs comprise 99.6% of businesses and employ over two-thirds of the workforce but face persistent financing barriers. The partnership aims to democratize AI-powered ESG compliance tools for businesses traditionally excluded from green capital markets.

Stakeholder Perspectives

“Through our collaboration with GCash and IFC, we are making technologies such as AI more accessible to local MSMEs, empowering them to participate in the next wave of sustainable digital transformation. This scorecard serves as a vital tool for future innovation, reinforcing that true environmental sustainability integrates social and economic impact, and it must never be sidelined.”

— Carrie Suen, Vice President and Head of Global Affairs at Ant International

Why it matters: This positions AI as an enabler for emerging market MSMEs to meet global ESG standards without prohibitive infrastructure costs.

“For MSMEs, this is a game-changer. It provides visibility into their environmental and social impact and credibility that can attract green capital and partnerships.”

— Winsley Bangit, Group Head for New Businesses at GCash

Why it matters: GCash’s extensive user base amplifies distribution, transforming digital wallets into sustainability infrastructure.

Industry Context

Fintech platforms increasingly embed ESG measurement tools to meet global standards amid escalating climate risks. MSMEs globally lack standardized metrics for sustainable finance eligibility; this scorecard addresses that gap with actionable, verifiable data. Successful pilots in the Philippines could establish benchmarks for digital wallet-led sustainability initiatives across Asia-Pacific emerging markets, potentially driving increased green investment flows to underserved MSME segments.

Conclusion

The Sustainability Impact Scorecard promises to bridge the MSME financing gap while driving measurable sustainable practices. If successful, the model could scale across Southeast Asia, establishing a new standard for inclusive green fintech innovation in emerging markets.
